Digital Transformation

Embrace Change. Or Don’t.

Change is tough, and change is inevitable.

Digital Transformation impacts existing processes, people, and products. The purpose of transforming an organization is usually efficiency. It’s important to minimize risk during a transformation, as “business as usual” activities must continue to function to enable the organization to run properly.

Having an experienced partner to help lead digital transformation efforts can be a key difference between successful execution and failure. The Orange Development Team has successfully led digital transformations within the retail, finance, professional services, pharma, luxury goods and transportation industries. These verticals, and their underlying companies, face separate challenges during a transformation. However, overall the process for planning a transformation is similar, and involves examining:

  • Which products and services will be impacted, and what is the definition of a successful transform for each?

  • Which teams will be impacted, and what does a digitally-minded team look like, post-transform?

  • Which processes must we change, whether (product development, support, planning, etc.), and what is the impact to the organization post-change?

Examples of Digital Transformation

Usually transformations involve maturing the organization with reference to:

  • Data Analytics and Data Science

  • Cloud Migration for Infrastructure

  • Social Media integration and engagement

  • Mobile, Tablet and/or Kiosk development (in addition to Desktop and Web Apps)

  • Human and Computer Interaction (HCI)

…but most importantly, people within the organization are the most important piece of the puzzle. Thinking digitally involves adding another layer of complexity on top of existing products, services and processes. The existing pool of talent within an org, and their buy-in to the transform, is absolutely critical to digital transformation success. Here, culture is critical, along with believing in employees’ abilities, and investments in digital training.

At transform completion, it’s desirable to have highly-engaged, high-performing teams who care about delivering successful products and services which resonate with consumers.
